Job Description - Non-Certificated Position/Title:
Library Media Assistant Reports to:
Building Administrator Qualifications 60 hours of college coursework, or An approved teacher aide program or A passing score on the ParaPro test, or Passing the relevant Work Keys tests to be considered HQ by the ISBE Understanding of library systems, circulation and organization General
Responsibilities:
To assist library media specialist/library media coordinator in running the library media and technology program within the school.
To provide support for staff with audio-visual and technology set ups as requested.
Duties:
Check in/Check out books and/or playaways (staff and students) Assist individual students or small groups with book and/or playaways inquiries Place books on hold for staff and students Process payments made by students for either lost or damaged books Manage damaged Chromebooks and related processes Email overdue notices Sort and organize and shelf checked in books by fiction, nonfiction, playaways, short stories, Rebecca Caudill, graphic novels and new books.
Then sort by author for fiction and number for nonfiction Process new books from Perma-Bound Process new books from outside vendors Process new playaways Email/Mail overdue letters to parents when they are 2-3 months overdue Repair damaged books Create book displays and Cleverboard slideshows Check out and in Chromebooks as needed Print ID's (staff and students) Collaborat with Teachers and Technology Department to ensure resource availablity Manage budget Maintains library collection (including weeding books) Conduct book talks Provide library tour (beginning of year) Run Reports (end of year) Keeps the library media center clean, safe and orderly.
Supervises students at all times and does not leave students unattended.
Reports theft or damage to school or personal property immediately to the teacher and principal.
Arrives on time and follows assigned duties until the end of the school day.
Seeks awareness and clarification of school and district rules, policies and procedures through the building principal or other appropriate administrative staff.
Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
